Investigator Miriam Tomponzi's advices

Preventing thefts: "Armoured doors and lights on"

Here are some precious rules, suggested by Miriam Tomponzi, to spend a carefree summer.

"In eighty per cent of cases, an armoured door suffices to protect oneself against thieves; also "ready-to-use" alarms provide a good degree of security". They are operated by simply plugging them in a power socket ". Installing this kind of alarm costs about 2.5 million lire.

Next, the private investigator suggests to install a light source illuminating at night the entry of the palace, or of the villa for those who live out of town.

"It is also good practice to install a timer turning the balcony lights on, so as to have the thieves think that there's always somebody in the house".

But apartments are not the only targets: "Those who are working during the summer, in buildings that empty out in this time, better take some precautions. Here is a device that always works: have a closed- circuit telecamera installed outside, so as to be able to check those who arrive at the office's door. This helps prevent any aggression by the thief who, on some pretext, has managed to have the door opened".

Furthermore, "leave a cellular phone in the safest corner of the office. In the unfortunate case, you should realize that a thief entered, you will go there and call police and Carabinieri".
